Objectives: The aim of this research was to assess the safety and effectiveness of dacryoendoscopy in lacrimal duct disease.
Methods: The literature review for dacryoendoscopy was done using 8 Korea databases, Ovid-MEDLINE, Ovid-EMBASE, and Cochrane Library. A total of 7 articles were included in the final assessment by two reviewers.
Results: The safety of the technique is acceptable as no complications were reported that would pose a risk to the patient. The assessment of effectiveness for dacryoendoscopy was based on additional lesions found and impact on medical outcomes. i) 4 articles reported additional lesions found including cause of lesion, diagnostic changes in degree and location of obstruction. ii) 3 articles reported that the dacryoendoscopy has a positive impact on the choice of appropriate treatment strategies.
Conclusion: Dacryoendoscopy is a safe and effective technique for identifying the cause, degree and location of the lesion in patients with lacrimal duct disease.
